Rwanda Development Board (RDB): Permits and Park Fees

The Rwanda Development Board manages all national park wildlife activities and entry fees for Rwanda’s three main national parks through the centralised RDB platform at rdb.rw. All permit bookings — gorilla trekking at Volcanoes, chimpanzee trekking at Nyungwe, canopy walkway at Nyungwe, and general park entry at Akagera — are handled through this platform or in some cases at the specific park gate. The Volcanoes National Park gorilla permit is the highest-demand item in the entire East Africa safari system and must be booked well in advance: for the July-August peak season and the December-January period, permit dates at the most popular Volcanoes families can be fully allocated 6 to 12 months in advance. The booking process requires an RDB account (created at rdb.rw), passport details for all trekking participants, selection of the specific trek date (no family selection: family allocation is made at the Kinigi briefing on the morning of the trek), and payment by international credit card at the time of booking. The RDB system issues a PDF booking confirmation immediately after payment, and this confirmation must be presented at the Kinigi briefing centre with the matching passport on the trek day. Nyungwe chimpanzee trekking permits are available through the RDB platform or can be purchased in advance at the Uwinka visitor centre. Nyungwe canopy walkway permits are purchased at the Uwinka visitor centre on arrival. Akagera National Park entry fees are collected at the park gate on each day of entry. Rwanda Entry Requirements: ETA Visa

Most nationalities visiting Rwanda for tourism require a Rwanda Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to arrival. The Rwanda ETA is applied for through the Rwanda irembo portal at irembo.gov.rw. The application requires: a valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond the planned Rwanda departure date, a recent passport-size photograph, proof of onward or return travel, and credit or debit card payment. Citizens of all African Union member states do not require a visa to enter Rwanda under the African Union free movement protocols. Communication and Mobile Data in Rwanda During the Circuit

Rwanda has an outstanding mobile telecommunications infrastructure relative to other East Africa countries, with 4G LTE coverage extending to all three national park areas and the majority of the national highway network.
