- Buhoma sector: Toyota Prado adequate — the approach road from Kabale via the B028 is rough gravel but manageable without diff lock.
- Rushaga sector: Toyota Prado adequate — the best-surfaced approach road of the four Bwindi sectors.
Day-by-Day Gorilla Safari Self-Drive (Buhoma, 5 days from Kampala)
- Day 1: Kampala → Lake Mburo NP (240 km, 3.5 hours). Afternoon game drive (zebra, impala). Overnight Lake Mburo camp.
- Day 2: Lake Mburo dawn circuit → drive to Bwindi Buhoma (260 km, 5.5 hours via Mbarara and Kabale). Overnight near Buhoma gate.
