Twenty-one days is enough time to self-drive the complete East Africa wildlife circuit — Uganda’s gorillas and chimpanzees, Rwanda’s volcanoes and Akagera, Kenya’s Masai Mara migration and Samburu northern specials, and Tanzania’s Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The route covers approximately 5,000 kilometres of driving across four countries, multiple border crossings, and a dozen national parks. This itinerary is structured for two travellers in a single hire vehicle, beginning and ending in Kampala, with the vehicle crossing Kenya-Tanzania-Rwanda-Uganda on a coordinated hire agreement with cross-border permission. This is an ambitious circuit — it requires advance permit booking (especially gorilla permits in both Uganda and Rwanda), coordinated vehicle documentation for all four countries, and a daily driving discipline of early starts and route adherence.
